Just a simple girl who loves writing stories and poems. I started writing stories when I was in elementary and poems when I was a high school sophomore.

This collection of poems would have never been written if my classmate Andrea had never inspired me to begin writing them. Because of her, I am able to develop my writing skills, expand my vocabulary, find a new hobby, and love poems. “They are mere words.” Or so I thought. There’s more than what meets the eye.

Turns out, I’ve been writing poems since 2006 albeit few, and it doesn’t rhyme (I saw them while scanning my old notebooks). With my newly found hobby, there’s something more to write about aside from stories.

These poems are reflections of my soul. Whether it is a story poem, emotional poem, or simply a random poem, please don’t assume the word “I” always pertain to the writer. That’s not always the case.

“Where you are in great emotion, brainstorm happens.” – KitKat

“I write to discover what I think.” – Joan Didion

“Writing is the best way to talk without being interrupted.” – Jules Renard

What inspires me to write poems? I agree, it’s not easy to instantly think of something on the spot right away, but if I don’t feel like writing or I feel sloppy, I don’t write then. It usually results into a poem that doesn’t seem that have enough “oomph” in it. Know what I’m saying? Also, when there are events that make you depressed, distressed, or emotional, it’s the moment when a lot of things are circling in your mind, and it’s a brainstorm. That’s not to say you should inflict yourself with problems to think of an idea. Even simple circumstances can get you started. For example, look around your surroundings, and you may feel a sensation, and you’ll just have an idea what to write (for me, tranquil poems).

I encourage you to also write poems! It may be tricky at the start, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty fun! If you want improvement, you got to have movement. When you’re done with a poem, polish it! Number of syllables, rhyming sequence, meaning-those are some factors and things you need to polish. If it seems like there’s a lot of restrictions, try writing a loose poem (unordered syllables).

Enjoy poem writing!
